LLC’ s Access to HE Diploma (Midwifery/Nursing) is designed for adults who want to enter Higher Education but may not have the required qualifications such as A-Levels. On our Access to Midwifery/Nursing pathways, you will benefit from studying a range of subjects which will prepare you to progress on to a broad selection of Midwifery or Nursing related degree programmes at the University.

The Access to HE Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery is designed to prepare students for entry into a range of undergraduate programs in the allied health professions. You will study 18 units delivered under five core subject areas:
• Human Biology
• Health Studies
• Social Issues in Healthcare
• Psychology
• Study SkillsThe subjects covered in this course typically include:
Human Biology: Students will learn about the structure and function of the human body, including the cardiovascular, reproduction, respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems.
Health Studies: Students will learn about the roles and responsibilities of the nurse/midwife, inequalities in health, illness and social care, the history of the NHS
Psychology: Within this topic you will explore a range of studies relating to human behaviour and to mental health conditions and the range of treatments and therapies which are successful in supporting recovery from them.
Social Issues in Healthcare: Within this topic you will explore a range of topics for example; Understanding Poverty
Study Skills: This module covers academic study techniques, numeracy in the healthcare context Progressing to HE communication skills that are essential for success in the social sciences
Research and Referencing: students will learn about research methods used in medical and healthcare fields, including qualitative and quantitative research.

Entry Requirements
- Students must be 19+ and have L2 or above English & Maths Functional Skills/GCSE or be working towards them alongside studying your Access to Higher Education Diploma.
- A good level of ICT skills (most assignments will need to be typewritten and you will be learning online).
- Also, to participate in this programme you will need a suitable computer and/or device with sufficient internet access. Specific requirements and information on the support available to borrow or purchase equipment can be discussed at interview
Note:• Previous experience and skills in the Health Care sector is desirable but not essential• A Biology or Science qualification is desirable but not essential if you are wanting to study midwifery. -
Assessment Methods
The Access to HE Diploma is designed to reflect the rigor and demands of undergraduate study. It includes a range of assessment methods such as essays, reports, exams, presentations, and portfolios. The assessments will be spread throughout the year, and you will receive regular feedback to help you progress and develop your skills.

Career Opportunities and Further Study
Once you have completed an Access to HE Diploma (Nursing and Midwifery), you will have a variety of progression options available to you. Most people progress to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc) or a Bachelor of Nursing (BN) degree programme at university.
A registered nurse degree apprenticeship (RNDA) offers a flexible route to becoming a nurse that doesn't require full-time study at university. You will need to secure a position as an RNDA and your employer will release you to study at university part time.
The first step to becoming a midwife is to take a degree level programme approved by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). This may be a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree or midwifery degree apprenticeship.
Some students may choose to enter the workforce and become a nursing apprentice, where they will work under the supervision of a qualified nurse while completing their training or start working in healthcare industries in different capacities such as care home assistants, nursing aids etc.

Location
- This course is delivered online.
- Online Learning is a way of accessing qualifications and courses, supported by a personal tutor but without attending lessons in a classroom setting. This means you can complete your studies in the comfort of your own home, giving you the opportunity to recap on your studies as often as you need to.
- Learners attend fortnightly workshops delivered online and will also study independently via an online platform.
- You will meet with your pastoral tutor to give you support and complete an individual action plan. Your tutor will give you advice about time management to support you with your career goals.
