Safeguarding Topic: Refugee Awareness Week June 19th – June 25th

What is Refugee Awareness Week and how to get involved…

Imagine your home country, the place that you call home, where you were born and raised, where you went to school, where you started your family…

Now imagine a serious conflict or persecution breaking out and you are now forced to flee from your country for your own safety and the safety of your family.

How would you feel?

You probably wouldn’t even know how to feel, the whole scenario just seems like a nightmare or something you would see in a movie.

Well, this is the reality for over 230,000 people in the UK. As of November 2022, there were 231,597 with the various conflicts happening around the world this number is sure to increase in the following years.

Refugee Awareness Week is an initiative that takes place every single year around the world in the week around Refugee Awareness Day on June 20th. It’s an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the strength and courage of those forced to flee their home country and rebuild their lives.
