London Learning Consortium is working in partnership with Willmott Dixon and Kensington & Chelsea Council to offer a Construction Traineeship programme.

Traineeship details

A traineeship is a course with work experience that gets you ready for work or an apprenticeship. It can last up to 8 weeks.

Start date: 1st August 2022

You can apply if you’re:

  • eligible to work in England
  • unemployed and have little or no work experience
  • aged 16 to 24 and qualified below Level 4

You’ll get:

  • a work experience placement
  • help with English and maths (if you need it)

You won’t be paid, but you may be given expenses for things like travel and meals.

Providing work experience on a Willmott Dixon Construction site.

Participants will gain an introduction to a variety of construction trades, working as a General Operative in a small group with experienced workers developing the skills needed to undertake Construction roles.

Tasks include:

  • Adhering to Health & Safety
  • Assisting with general labouring
  • Setting out bricks and blocks
  • Keeping site clean and tidy
  • Clearing up at the end of the day
  • General site work
  • Keeping the workplace clean and tidy

This Traineeship work experience is part of an education and training programme that is focused on giving young people the skills and experience that employers are looking for. At its core is the work preparation training, English and maths for those who need it, and a high quality work experience placement.

Traineeships help unlock your great potential and give you the work preparation training, maths, English, Digital Skills and work experience needed to get an Apprenticeship or other job.

Are you eligible?

Are you currently not in a job? Do you have little or no work experience?
Are you aged 16 to 24 or 25 with an Educational Health Care Plan (due to funding restrictions) and qualified below Level 4?

Training to be provided

This Traineeship opportunity includes work preparation training, Functional Skills maths and English support for those who require it and a high quality work experience placement.

London Learning Consortium is the Training Provider. However, the Building Lives programme will take place at 279a Kensal Road, London W10 5DB.

Whilst in the Traineeship programme you will do the following training/qualifications:

  • Level 1 Certificate in Basic Construction Skills
  • Level 1 Health and Safety in Construction
  • Level 1 Employability Skills
  • CSCS
  • Traffic Marshalling
  • Digital Skills
  • Maths and English Functional Skills

On-site experience with professional Willmott Dixon staff members.

What this will lead to

After successful completion of the Traineeship course, you will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of reference as a minimum, to support future job applications.

On completion of the Traineeship programme and achieving the CSCS Card, Traffic Marshal and Construction qualifications, you will be able to work as a qualified General Operative.
