Who we are
The London Learning Foundation (LLF) was formed in May 2013 as a wholly-owned charitable subsidiary of London Learning Consortium. The London Learning Foundation is a health charity, which develops and supports projects that promote health and wellbeing, to young people and adults over 19 within the borough of Croydon. Our objective is to with the objective of creating communities of wellbeing. Wellbeing is generally understood to comprise two main components: feeling good and functioning well. We are developing and supporting a range of projects that support well-being, led by ideas rather than pushed by problems.
The Foundation has a Board of Trustees which meets three times a year to steer the Foundation and oversee activity.
What we do
LLF Vision Statement July 2019
Stronger communities supporting healthier and happier people
- Improving the wellbeing of individuals and communities
- Improving access to the educational and employment resources available through LLC and partners
- Improving the uptake of existing community wellbeing resources
We believe that when we as individuals are mindful of our own health and wellbeing, and the health and wellbeing of those around us, we can build and sustain communities of wellbeing.
We aim to increase community resilience by building on people’s existing strengths and powering innovative projects that support learning outcomes around health and wellbeing within the borough of Croydon. In parallel with this, we work with the local community to build the capacity to take these projects into the future.
LLF is inspired by positive psychology which looks at how ordinary people can flourish and experience wellbeing through social connectedness. We are committed to giving a voice to local people, to empowering them to be their best selves and take responsibility for their own and others’ wellbeing.
As a strength-based and people led charity, LLF aims to:
- bring people together and build strong relationships in and across communities
- improve the places and spaces that matter to communities
- enable more people to fulfil their potential by working to address issues at the earliest possible stage
LLF is developing a range of projects inspired by the Five Ways to Wellbeing.
- Connect with others
- Be more Active
- Take Notice of the world
- Keep learning
- Give to others
We are committed to:
We will speak to people and listen to what they have to say.
Supporting what’s already working well
We will use the knowledge, skills and experience people already have and explore how we can build on it.
Being brave and testing new approaches
We will be original and creative in achieving our mission and will share what we learn with others.
Understanding and valuing existing activities and services that do similar work
We will engage with and add value to other groups, learning from their experiences and knowledge and sharing what we know.
What’s happening right now?
We have consulted deeply with our partners and members of our community to really understand what would be most helpful in making a real difference to health and wellbeing in Croydon. At the heart of our approach is a strong commitment to designing our work with and for our residents and for residents to be part of the delivery.
We will be running a series of projects in the coming year to improve health and wellbeing using the five steps outlined above.
