Grenfell case study

This is a great case study of how one of our tenants made excellent use of all the opportunities afforded to her by Grenfell Foyer.

This tenant came to Grenfell as a tenant of our Foyer scheme in January 2006.  Through her hard work, persistence, commitment and determination she improved her skills, grew in confidence and achieved their ultimate goal of gaining full time employment.

She then attended a training induction where an Individual Learning Plan was completed. Her education and confidence had suffered because of her housing situation. Amongst other things she identified that she wanted to increase the number of qualifications she held. She also wanted to improve her literacy, independent living skills and employability. Her ultimate goal was to get a job.

By February she had begun Level 1 Preparation for Employment and Career Planning courses run at Grenfell. As part of this training she then went on a two week work placement at Wandle Housing Association. They complimented her on her enthusiasm and excellent communication skills.

In April Halima started the Learning Power Award. The Learning Power Award is a unit based qualification designed to meet the needs of Foyer tenants by concentrating on areas that help develop the skills required for independence. As part of this she went away on a team building weekend.

She worked hard to improve her CV writing skills, took part in filmed mock interviews conducted by Grenfell staff and really started to develop her job finding skills.

Grenfell then referred her onto the Ready for Work Programme managed by Business Action on Homelessness. She completed another work placement at Marks and Spencer where she further impressed and as a result secured full time employment in their sales department.
